About Me
Hello! My name is Jordan Rae Smalley and I am a graphic artist based out of the Los Angeles area. Originally, I am from the beautiful town of Mammoth Lakes, CA where I was heavily influenced by the majestic mountains, the colors of the sunrises and sunsets, and breathtaking views.
Art has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I grew up watching my mother paint. I vividly remember all of the arts and crafts that we did together when I was a child. From painting Disney characters on the walls of our house, to decorating Easter eggs, and creating our own Christmas ornaments, art was a major part of how we spent our time together. I became fascinated by the process of art and design. I loved how simple objects could be transformed into something beautiful, unique, and different.
Over time, I developed a hobby of finding new artistic techniques. I was curious about different mediums. When it came to painting, I would incorporate other materials such as tissue paper, aluminum, lace, plastic, and whatever I could find into a collage form. I loved building layer upon layer onto my canvases.
When my mom brought a computer into our home for the first time, it was only a matter of time till I figured out how to create my first artsy document. I spent hours on the new Paint program, creating everything that I could with a click of the mouse. Which then led to my education, where I learned the majority of the Adobe Creative Suite. I graduated from the California State University of San Marcos, where I majored in Visual and Performing Arts with an emphasis in Arts and Technology. At CSUSM, I explored photography, videography, and graphic design. The complexity of these advanced programs immediately caught my interest because it was like layering paintings in a way. There were so many ways to stylize a project.
Although I love making complex collages with an abundance of color, I am also very drawn to simplicity. I love incorporating basic shapes and silhouettes with the contrast of black and white with a splash of color. My goal is to take my passion for art and couple it with my skill and creativity to produce memorable and marketable pieces to represent my clients brands.
